I've emailed this to the guys at TDN already but I'll mention it here as well.

If you check the following link, you'll see that Tool probably can't play at Rod Laver Arena on Saturday, August 12th. However, that doesn't mean they can't play somewhere else in Melbourne that night - I'm planning on going to both Sydney and Melbourne if they confirm it etc.

http://premier.ticketek.com.au/shows/show.aspx?sh=BOYFROM06

Also, with regards to New Zealand, I hope the band play there this year, even it is only 1 show in Auckland or something. I wouldn't want you guys to miss out if us Aussies get at least 4 shows in August.

But anyway, I'm sure the band will do a similar thing as to what they did 5 years ago with the Lateralus tour, and return sometime in 2007 for a more complete tour of NZ/AUS/JAP etc.

C'mon confirmation from the band (or ticketek)!!

That show you linked is a week after the rumored tour date, of course Tool could play there.

Did they play Hobart last time?

I'd be up for a road trip to Adelaide, or a quick flight, just to see the lads play twice.

No. Bands don't play here.

I'm happy to go to melbourne though, I'd just prefer to not have to pay a few hundred extra for transport and accom.

Actually, if you look at 'select date', you'll see that the show is also on Saturday August 12th - you probably saw the "new show" dates and got confused etc. Just clarifying...

Anyway, it's rather trivial because Melbourne is a big enough city to have Tool play at another venue in town.

Just looking forward to some confirmation!

I've also emailed the admin at the Sydney Superdome and the Brisbane Entertainment Centre about Tool and stuff but so far had no reply. If I do get something I will post it here immediately.

I hope the rumour is true. Like I said earlier, they seem to be doing the same thing as the Lateralus tour, in that they play a show or 2 in the states, then hit Europe for the Summer festivals as well as dropping in on Australia ever so briefly before finally returning to the U.S. for a big tour Sep/Oct/Nov and then continue touring into and throughout the following year.

I missed Tool here in 2001 (they only played Syd and Mel) but saw them in Brisbane in 2002. The venues listed for their 4 supposed Aussie shows this August are decent venues, although the Superdome is probably too big if anything.

I don't really care what the album is called - I just want to hear it and see them live again, many times!!

Also, it would make sense to tour here (Australia) this year etc. since they are already making the effort to travel here in March to promote the new album - if only I was a journalist/employee of JJJ so I could interview them... should here some Aussie news soon.

We can only hope. Since we got Falls though, the amount of big names coming here has been slowly increasing, which gives me some hope, but I'm not holding my breathe, nor my pee or poo.

I don't want to sound pessimistic or like I'm anti-Tasmania (I think it's an awesome place!) but would it be in the band's interests to play a show down there? I know there would be lots of genuine Tool fans in Tassie but with a population of 500,000 would it be worth playing there as a band, strictly from a business point of view? How many would turn up for the concert?

Again, I don't want this to be taken the wrong way. Tool did play in Anchorage, Alaska back in late September, 2002, and their state population is about 600,000 so it's possible they'll come. Maybe next year when they do a full Aussie tour instead of this rumoured one just featuring the bigger cities...

Yeah i agree with the population thing. The largest permanent venue here only has a capacity of about 2200. Tool would almost certainly sell that out, that is if they would even bother playing such a small venue (although I'd prefer to see them at a small place like that than a 20,000 peep mega theatre). THe biggest bands to play here recently was the White stripes, they sold out in about a day, Henry Rollins was here on the same night and sold a lol-worthy 3 tickets. I trust most Tool fans would jump at the opportunity to see them, even if they were just casual fans, simply becuase they are pissed off at the lack of bands coming here.

Anyway I'm just a desperate fan hoping for the best.

Fuck I'm tired.

Again, I don't want this to be taken the wrong way. Tool did play in Anchorage, Alaska back in late September, 2002, and their state population is about 600,000 so it's possible they'll come. I didn't know that - is that for real? Only 3 tickets! Man, that would piss me off as an artist. But if you are on the same night as the White Stripes it makes some sense. I agree with you in that a lot of people would go to a Tassie Tool concert just because it was a known band playing in Tasmania, regardless of what the music was like - you should definitely consider going to Melbourne to see them play. I'm gonna go to the Sydney and Melbourne shows. If I can make it to Melbourne (from Syd), you should be able to get there from Tasmania.

You only live once. Spend money. See Tool.

Yeah they ended up giving a few hundred tickets away on some radio station. I was actually having beers at one of the bars in the casino he was playing, and could have gone for free, but i chose my free beer instead:)

YEah i can book a flight to melb pretty much whenever. It's a pity they don't have the $69 flights anymore though.

Tasmania is an anagram of I am Satan. It's liek totally un-tool not to play here...

we're not lucky until we get official word on these dates. I'm a pessimist so I have a bad feeling this could be a hoax. I've been advised the source of these dates was from the Big Day Out forum - we're all kinds of bullshit rumours begin. so for now I'm skeptical.

Don't worry. I'm sure there will be plenty of U.S. dates coming soon... and to the post above, Tool only played in Sydney and Melbourne in 2001 before touring again here in 2002...

I finally got an email back from the Sydney Superdome. This is what they had to say in response to my questions about Tool playing there it August:

Dear Matthew,

Further to your email below, please be advised that we are currently
not in a position to advise if Tool are performing at the Sydney SuperDome on 10th
August 2006.

However, may I suggest becoming a Sydney SuperDome online Club Member. Simply go to www.superdome.com.au, click on Member and follow the prompts. The advantage of being of being a Club Member is that you receive automatic
email notifications of upcoming events and are provided with the opportunity to order tickets through the Club before they go on sale to the General Public.

Furthermore, Club Membership is currently free of charge.

Regards,

Sydney SuperDome Club Co-ordinator

Read into it what you will, but I've got a feeling that somethings brewing here. The line "we are currently not in a position to advise if Tool are performing at the Sydney SuperDome on 10th August 2006" seems odd to me. If I just randomly emailed them and said something like "Are Metallica/Coldplay/Red Hot Chili Peppers etc. playing anytime soon at your venue?" they'd probably respond with something like "No - we have no shows planned with that artist" etc.

I'm looking forward to when they currently are in a position to advise that Tool are performing at the venue...

Just thought I'd let you all know.

That's sounds pretty promising to me, I would have thought you'd get an outright "NO" if there really wasn't any booking.....

Notice how they then went on to encourage me to join their members club? The whole email feels like they know 'something' and they are giving me as much info as they are currently allowed. They are probably just waiting for the band to ok it and/or announce the dates themselves, as well as ticketek etc.

I took this email to be a positive sign, not a negative one...

By the way, Hellboy1975, nice page over there at:

Good work!

Damn straight they did... I was there with only about 300 others in an empty entertainment centre. I hope they don't play at the superdome in Syd, that place is fucking huge. Bring on the Canberra and Wollongong dates I say... Hah, just the thought of Tool playing in Canberra makes me laugh even though they were here before...

Yeah, it was a good show at the old Royal Theatre.

Superdome is way too large, Sydney Entertainment Centre is fine.

Quick promo tour followed by a full scale assault as per usual.

I thought the first post-Lateralus show in the Sydney Ent. Centre was pretty good. Seemed just about the right size to me - about as big as you'd want to get though.

Pretty good sound, especially since we had crappy seats near the back and almost as far around to the right as you can get.

I got the same reply as mattw, and consequentily signed up to the SuperDome subscription service just incase they do play there. I was gonna post my reply but this place wouldn't load for me all last night.

I was hoping to have a more useful first post, but I got sick of waiting for the opportunity. Long time lurker, first time poster, hi

With all this stuff going on at the moment about what the album is called etc., all I really care about is seeing them live and hearing their new material. As a person I have no control over what a band names their albums. All I can do is chose to listen to their music and see them live. So that's all I'm really concerned about right now...

Blair or someone should add/confirm more tour dates sometime soon...

What time is Full Metal Racket on AESDT? I'll go check the website in the meantime...

EDIT: Don't bother. It's on at 10pm. I'll have a listen...

Triple JJJ said they'll let us know when Tool are going to be on air according to the website.

All three of the shows I've been to by Tool have been awesome and great in their own way.
